What Happens During a Men's Boudoir Session? A First-Timer's Guide
A men's boudoir session at Fox and Vixen runs about two to two and a half hours of photography, with a separate ordering appointment two weeks later. You're directed through every pose. You don't need to know what you're doing. You leave with images that are genuinely sensual, and most men say the session felt significantly easier than they expected.
Most men who search this question aren't really asking about logistics. They're asking something else. Whether the experience will be strange. Whether they'll feel like an idiot. Whether anyone has actually done this before them and come out the other side without regret.
The short version: yes to all three. Here's exactly how it goes.
Before Your Session
After you book, you'll receive a prep guide covering wardrobe, grooming, what to bring, and what to expect on the day. It's specific and practical, not a vague "wear what makes you feel good" suggestion. You'll know what types of clothing photograph well, what to avoid, and roughly how the session will be sequenced.
A brief consultation before your session date gives you a chance to ask questions, talk through what you want from the experience, and flag anything you want to avoid. No pressure to have a vision ready. Most men show up to the consultation with more questions than answers, and that's exactly what it's for.
When You Arrive
Men's boudoir sessions at Fox and Vixen don't include professional makeup, so you arrive ready and the photography starts without a long setup period. You'll go through what you brought with Mike and Angi: a quick look at each outfit, a conversation about which pieces to use and in what order, and a brief walkthrough of how the session will flow.
This part takes about ten to fifteen minutes. By the time it's done, you know the plan and there are no surprises ahead.
During the Session
The photography portion runs two to two and a half hours, typically covering three to five looks depending on what you brought and how the session flows.
You don't need to know how to pose. Mike directs every setup, where to put your hands, how to angle your body, where to look. Angi is there throughout for posing adjustments, styling details between looks, and keeping the session moving at a pace that feels comfortable. Your job is to follow direction and trust that they know what they're doing with light and posing. They do.
The first few minutes can feel a little strange. That's normal. You're standing in your underwear with a camera pointed at you, and that isn't something most men have done before. What almost everyone notices is that the strangeness fades faster than expected. The session has structure and momentum, and once you're in it, there's less room for self-consciousness than you'd think.
At points during the session, Mike will show you what's been captured on the back of the camera. These are unedited previews, so don't judge the final work by them. But they're enough to show you that something is working. Most men find this moment shifts something. The worst-case scenario you'd been imagining gets replaced by something more concrete and considerably better.
A note on what the work looks like. Men's boudoir at Fox and Vixen isn't the female-coded lingerie aesthetic. The reference points are closer to Calvin Klein campaigns and GQ covers: controlled, intentional, and sensual in the way that's specific to men. You often wear your own clothes. The posing is built around how men actually look when they're relaxed and present, not borrowed from women's boudoir. If you've wondered what this looks like for a regular guy without a six-pack, the answer is: a lot better than you're imagining.
After the Session
When the photography ends, you'll sit down briefly to set a date for your ordering appointment, usually one to two weeks out. That's it for session day.
Mike and Angi then narrow your images down to the strongest from the session and send them to a professional retoucher. The retouching removes temporary things, blemishes, position creases, stray marks, but doesn't alter your body proportions or make you look like someone else. You'll look like yourself, on a very good day, under very good light.
The Ordering Appointment
The ordering appointment is where most men describe the moment they hadn't anticipated.
You come in and Mike plays a slideshow of your retouched images. For the first few minutes you just watch. No decisions yet, nothing to evaluate, just seeing the work.
Several men have described this moment with some version of the same surprise: I didn't know I could look like that. That reaction shows up consistently regardless of body type, age, or fitness level. It lands as genuine shock rather than relief, which is different from what most men expected going in.
After the slideshow, you work through a process to select your images and choose your finished products, prints, albums, or digitals. You're never left staring at sixty images wondering what to do next.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to know how to pose?
No. You are directed through every setup, including where to put your hands and feet, which are, consistently, the specific things men worry about most going in. You don't need a modeling background or any prior experience in front of a camera.
Does my body need to look a certain way?
No. Men's boudoir is about creating images where you look attractive and sensual, not about meeting a physical standard first. Mike and Angi use light, posing, and framing to create images that look strong, controlled, and genuinely good. The "I need to lose ten pounds first" impulse is real and extremely common. It's also the thing most men are glad they didn't act on.
Will my images be shared anywhere?
Never without your written permission. You decide entirely what, if anything, is shared. Many men keep their images completely private. That outcome is just as complete as any other.
Is this only for gay men?
No. Men who've come through Fox and Vixen are straight, gay, and everything in between. The experience isn't tied to sexual orientation. It's about having images of yourself that are genuinely attractive and sensual, the kind most men have never had. Whether you're doing this for yourself, for a partner, or both is entirely your call.
What do men typically walk away with?
Images where they look genuinely attractive and sensual, the kind most men have never had of themselves. But the more consistent answer is also the feeling of having done something they weren't sure they could do, and finding out it was worth it. No man who's completed a session at Fox and Vixen has described regretting it.
Ready to Talk Through Whether This Is Right for You?
The men's page has the portfolio, current pricing, and the full picture of how the session works. When you're ready to talk, the consultation is free and low-pressure. Mike and Angi answer anything specific to your situation and help you figure out whether this is a good fit. No commitment required on the call.
